Analogue Portrait Project

Joshua Sariñana’s portrait from his series Prosopagnosia was selected for the 5th annual Analogue Portrait Project, an exhibition hosted by Smashbox Studios as part of Month of Photography Los Angeles. The show, which ran in Culver City, CA, featured 25 juried film-based portraits from both emerging and established photographers, evaluated by a panel including Ron Haviv (VII Photo Agency), Kate Kuo (Los Angeles Times), and MaryAnn Camilleri (Magenta Foundation).

Prosopagnosia interrogates the fragility of memory through portraiture, reflecting on the brain’s shifting neural connections during wakefulness and sleep. These portraits serve as visual placeholders for inaccessible memories, portraying the tension between searching for recognition and failing to perceive. Through blurred details and fragmented forms, the series immerses viewers in a dreamlike state, mirroring the experience of struggling to recall familiar faces.
