Black & White Magazine, SPOTLIGHT

Neuroscientist and photographer Joshua Sariñana’s spotlight interview in Black & White Magazine examines the intersection of cognition and visual art. His Image of Structure series dissects architectural forms as representations of thought processes, drawing from his background in hippocampal research at MIT. The conversation delves into how spatial memory, perception, and identity manifest in his photography, particularly through the contrast of rigid and organic architectural designs. Sariñana also discusses the critical differences between artistic and scientific evaluation, the role of rejection in creative growth, and the ways photography externalizes cognitive processes. Read the full interview for insights into how neuroscience and art converge in his work.
