Joshua Sariñana Recognized in the 2017 Sony World Photography Awards

An image from Joshua Sariñana’s Image of Structure series was commended in the Architecture category of the 2017 Sony World Photography Awards, one of the most prestigious photography competitions in the world. His work, which reimagines the Stata Center at MIT through abstraction and form, was selected from hundreds of thousands of entries, earning a place among the top images of the year. This recognition highlights Sariñana’s ability to merge his expertise in neuroscience with photography, transforming architectural structures into meditative visual studies. The award further solidifies his presence in the contemporary photography landscape, celebrating his unique perspective on space, light, and perception.

Joshua Sariñana

Joshua Sariñana, PhD, obtained his degrees in neuroscience at the University of California, Los Angeles, and completed his doctoral thesis at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Sariñana’s multi-disciplinary art projects bridge art, science, and media. He has received several grants for his art projects, exhibited his work nationally and internationally, and has received numerous awards for his photographic work.

He combines his science communications background with his neuroscience and art practice. Sariñana has provided his expertise to WIRED Magazine, MIT Technology Review, MIT News, and as an invited speaker for the Neurohumanities series at Trinity College in Dublin.
