Photographic Resource Center Portfolio Presentation

Dr. Joshua Sariñana’s photographic series, Representation of Hidden Communication, explores the unseen dimensions of scientific research, particularly within neuroscience. Presented at PRC Nights, this project visually interprets the complex, often inaccessible nature of scientific inquiry, emphasizing how much of communication—both in research and human interaction—occurs beneath the surface. The series examines unspoken meanings, subtle gestures, and the hidden narratives embedded in the pursuit of knowledge. Using abstraction, metaphor, and visual ambiguity, Sariñana invites viewers to engage with the hidden layers of scientific exploration, drawing parallels between the challenges of interpreting research findings and the way individuals perceive and process visual information. Through this presentation, he challenged audiences to consider the ways communication operates beyond direct expression, revealing the intricate interplay between visibility, understanding, and perception.

Joshua Sariñana

Joshua Sariñana, PhD, obtained his degrees in neuroscience at the University of California, Los Angeles, and completed his doctoral thesis at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
